What the Department does
The Department of Sport and Recreation is committed to enhancing sport and recreation at every level - working through the National Sport Governing Bodies that sit at the centre of Bermuda sport.
The Department wishes to see a diverse range of sports available to the Bermudian public, investing in a wide variety of NSGBs to meet outcomes around increased participation and improved performance, as set out in the National Sports Policy 2022-27.
Through the Sport Investment Programme, the Department provides core funding to NSGBs and sports organisations - supporting athletes, coaches and programmes across three categories, including the Elite Athlete Fund and Elite Athlete Sponsorship Fund.
Recognised NSGBs are organisations that have achieved a position of pre-eminence within their sport and demonstrate the required level of organisation and governance. Funding follows a transparent process grounded in accountability, equity and tangible outcomes.
How funding works
NSGBs demonstrate pre-eminence in their sport and the required standard of organisation and governance.
Recognised bodies apply to the Sport Investment Programme, setting out their plans and intended outcomes.
Funding is directed across High Performance, Junior & Senior Programming and Coach & Official Development.
Outcomes are measured annually - investment grows where it works, and is withdrawn where it does not.
